Keto Family Meal Ideas

The most challenging part about staying loyal to the keto diet is not starting, but keeping yourself on track. Holding yourself accountable is often difficult as the mind is strong while the body can be oh so weak. I often find myself making deals with my keto diet. I’ll go ahead and cheat right now, but I promise to eat less the rest of the week. Haha! In my experience, having your family hold you accountable for sticking to your keto diet works much better. According to the Mayo Clinic, having friends or family members who are supportive of your healthy eating and exercise goals is essential for long-term weight-loss success. Often times, my boyfriend and family will hype me up and keep me away from unwanted fast food temptations. Right before I get to my parent’s house, my mom will hide all her favorite sweets and salty chips. She knows I will sneak my way into her kitchen as soon as she is distracted. For this reason, I am often looking for keto recipes and keto ideas that will involve my entire family. I am so excited to share with you all my most treasured keto family meal ideas.

First thing that you have to take into account when making a keto meal for your entire family is that there will be kiddos attending! The perfect strategy when cooking for kids is to make something simple yet delicious. I recommend making keto friendly breaded chicken nuggets and jicama fries. These bad boys are incredibly easy to make and they are a hit even at the adults table.

1. Separate your wet and dry ingredients. Fill one bowl with 1 whisked egg and 4 tablespoons of melted coconut oil. Grab another bowl and fill with ½ cup of almond flour, ½ teaspoon of salt and garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon of onion powder.
2. Cut a pack of chicken breasts into strips, or nuggets sized pieces.
3. Dip each piece of chicken in your egg and oil mixture, then dip it in your flour mixture and cover fully.
4. Here comes the most important part, fry each chicken nugget in oil on both sides, until golden brown and cooked thoroughly. Alternatively, you can bake these on a lined baking tray at 350°F for 10-15 minutes.
Pair these delectable nuggets with your favorite keto friendly dipping sauce, and I know your family won’t be able to keep their hands off them.

Up next, are your seasoned jicama fries. There’s nothing I miss more when on the keto diet then a large order of fries. This recipe will always be a hit among children too!

1. Cut up a jicama into thin french fries and light sprinkle with salt. Boil these in a medium sized pot of water for 10 minutes and then drain.
2. Place drained jicama pieces into a large mixing bowl. Coat with a thorough drizzle of coconut oil, then sprinkle on ¼ teaspoon sea salt, garlic powder, cumin, and smoked paprika, and combine so all your fries are evenly coated.
3. Spread fries onto a buttered baking tray and bake at 400°F for 30 minutes. For crispier fries, remove from the oven and fry in avocado, or coconut oil. I assure you that this keto meal idea will be a hit at family dinner time!

Here is another wonderful keto friendly family meal idea that your loved ones will rave about; zucchini spaghetti. To be perfectly honest with you, I usually just pick up some already spiralized zucchini noodles at my local grocery store. BUT it is extremely easy to spiralize them yourself.

1. Cook up your ground beef in a large skillet at medium to high heat. Stir in black pepper and continue cooking until your beef for 7 to 10 minutes.
2. Mix in tomato sauce, tomatoes, salt, basil, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and red pepper flakes into ground beef.
3. Here is where the magic really happens, pour zucchini noodles into your meat sauce. Make sure that you press down on your zucchini noodles so they are completely submerged in your sauce. Simmer your noodles on medium to low heat for about 10 minutes, or until your zucchini is tender.

Serve your spaghetti hot with parmesan cheese. Your family will be happily surprised that these are not your traditional pasta noodles and they will be begging for a second plate.

The quickest and easiest keto family meal idea I have encountered in all my days on the keto diet is PBH goodies for dessert. PBH Foods has so many delicious flavors of keto friendly cookies and keto friendly donuts. From Keto Chocolate Chip donuts to Keto Lemon Coconut Cookies, every member of your family will be able to find their favorite PBH keto treat. You can serve with all types of tasty toppings. For example, you can order a PBH Custom Box which allows you to select up to four different PBH paleo goodies or keto goodies. This way you will surely have dessert for everyone, especially the kids. I love to serve my selection of keto donuts and keto cookies with keto friendly icing, melted keto chocolate (for dipping!) and keto ice cream. You can show your family how to create their own delicious ice cream cookie or donut sandwiches. You can warm up your keto friendly PBH goodies in the oven and serve a la mode. This create-your-own style dessert is the perfect option for a family night. Spread out some board games, or put on a movie. This delectable keto dessert is the perfect way to make wonderful memories with your entire family!

Setting up a strong support system for your new keto diet is essential to your success and weight loss. Although the keto diet seems easy to follow, temptations will always arrive. Perhaps, the hardest moments to stay loyal to your keto diet are at family events. So my advice is to make sure that your entire family can hold you accountable. Your diet can even be a friendly competition among family members. With the help of your favorite keto bakery (PBH!), and your loved ones, you will be invincible!
